Edmonton… ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) has charged an Edmonton man with child pornography offences and investigators are looking for possible victims to come forward.
David McDowell was arrested on January 12, 2022 and charged with possession of child pornography. The 69-year-old man was previously a volunteer youth coordinator for an Edmonton-based medieval recreation and culture group.
Given the suspect’s past involvement with the youth groups, and based on some of the evidence gathered to date, ICE is concerned about the possibility of child victims in the Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver areas.
Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to call the Edmonton Police Service Complaint Line (780)-423-4567, Crime Stoppers or submit information anonymously at cybertip.ca.
“The sheer volume, and the content of child sexual exploitation materials seized is quite disturbing, even to our most experienced investigators. Our primary concern is identifying potential victims, and providing the supports and resources they need”.
Insp. John Respet, ICE
ICE forensic technicians estimate hundreds of thousands of child sexual abuse materials located on the suspect’s computers and electronic devices. The full analysis is expected to take months.
The investigation began in December 2021 after ICE received information from a Cybertip.
