UPDATE: Additional charges laid against Edmonton man accused of luring, sexual assault

Edmonton… An additional 17 charges have been laid against an Edmonton man arrested earlier this year for child luring and child sexual abuse and exploitation material (CSAEM) related offences.

Heman Palani, 36-years old, was charged on December 4, 2025 as part of a joint investigation between ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit and the Edmonton Police Service Child Protection Section. He was first arrested in April 2025. Read the full news release here.

Through a forensic analysis of Palani’s seized devices, investigators were able to identify four additional victims, all of which were between the ages of 14 and 17 years old.

At the time of the initial news release, investigators identified two victims. It is believed he used social media to target teen girls in the Edmonton and surrounding areas before meeting them in person.

“There is incredible strength and bravery in each of these girls who chose to come forward and share their stories with police and the team at the Zebra Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, who are continuing to offer supports and resources,” said Staff Sergeant Alison Church, ALERT ICE.

The latest charges against Palani include:

  • Child luring x4;
  • Obtaining sexual services from a person under 18 x4;
  • Possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material x3;
  • Sexual assault
  • Making child sexual abuse and exploitation material x3; and
  • Fail to report to probation x2.

Investigators are continuing to identify and speak with potential victims and witnesses. Palani used several alias’ online over various social media platforms, including ‘itsz-ariel’, ‘lookn4sugarbabe’, ‘rayaplz5minutes’, ‘sugaring4ababy’, ‘21RaysofSun’, ‘fennecfox7830’ in addition to ‘hermesthefox’ and ‘fockxindahenhouse’. He also went by the name ‘Zane’ and ‘Hemi’.

Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. If you are outside of Edmonton, contact your local police. Reports can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).

He is being held in custody while he awaits his next scheduled court appearance on December 19, 2025.

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime.

Since 2022, CISA has been guided by four pillars that focus the effort to promote an integrated, intelligence-led approach to combating organized crime; these are:

  • Building Relationships with Stakeholders;
  • Promote Intel Sharing Across the Province;
  • Being Proactive and Identify Emerging Trends; and
  • Investing in Our People Through Training and Development

Criminal Intelligence Service Alberta (CISA) has recently developed an Alberta Firearms Intelligence Centre (AFIC) to equitably expand access to firearms intelligence for all law enforcement agencies within Alberta. AFIC will provide timely, accurate, and actionable intelligence to law enforcement agencies and policy-makers to achieve the shared and collaborative goals of increasing public safety concerning firearm-related crimes.

Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) involves images and/or videos that depict the sexual abuse of minors – the majority of which involve prepubescent children. Often, CSAM involves explicit and/or extreme sexual assaults against the child victim (Cybertip.ca).

Ghost Guns are illegal, privately manufactured firearms or lower receivers. These weapons are often made with 3D-printers, and undermine public safety due to their lack of licensing requirements, serialization and safety controls.
