Calgary… Two Calgary suspects have been arrested in a complex scheme of re-vinning stolen vehicles.
ALERT’s Auto Crimes’ unit charged the suspects on September 29, 2024 and recovered three stolen vehicles, worth an estimated $380,000. The stolen vehicles included two high-end trucks and a motorhome.
ALERT alleges that two suspects were involved in re-vinning and fraudulently registering stolen vehicles by exploiting the vehicle registration process. Service Alberta has been advised and is helping with the investigation.
“By exploiting the system, these suspects were essentially hiding in plain sight. Organized and complex auto crimes such as these drive up insurance premiums for all Albertans,” said Staff Sgt. Gordon MacDonald, ALERT.
The vehicles were previously reported stolen from Cochrane, Calgary, and Tsuut’ina.
Investigators were alerted to the case after an innocent third-party was contacted about driving offences committed in a vehicle fraudulently registered under their name.
Darko Kolundzic, 36, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, uttering a forged document, and fraud.
Viviana Tello, 39, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, uttering a forged document, and fraud.
