RCMP RELEASE: Westlock couple charged in methamphetamine bust

Westlock, Alta. – Nearly a kilogram of methamphetamine and an assortment of other drugs were seized following a joint investigation by ALERT and Westlock RCMP.

The seizure took place on December 5, 2018, after a rural property in Westlock, Alta. was searched. Investigators were acting on information that the two residents were involved in drug trafficking activity.

“Removing this quantity of drugs off the streets helps to ensure the safety of all Westlock and area residents. Our members will continue to work with our law enforcement partners in combatting the illegal drug trade,” says Westlock Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Al Baird.

The drugs seized from the home have an estimated street value of $85,000 and include:

  • 824 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 319 methamphetamine tablets;
  • 369 MDMA tablets;
  • 50 grams of suspected fentanyl powder;
  • 74 grams of cocaine;
  • 300 milliliters of GHB; and
  • $5,000 cash proceeds of crime.

 

D’arcy Payne, 45, and Misty Payne, 41, were jointly charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x5) and possession of proceeds of crime.

D’arcy was also charged with breach of recognizance (x3). His breach charges are in relation to a previous RCMP investigation that took place in Sturgeon County for similar offences.
