Edmonton… ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit has arrested a 34-year-old Edmonton man for child pornography offences. The suspect was employed as a peace officer with Alberta Health Services.
Simon Boutros was arrested with the help of the Edmonton Police Service on February 2, 2022. Boutros is charged with possession of child pornography and transmitting child pornography.
ICE alleges the suspect had shared child pornography online via a social media application. The investigation began in October 2021 following a tip from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre.
While the investigation and charges are related to online offences, ICE is encouraging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact police, or cybertip.ca.
A number of computer and electronic devices were seized and will be subject to a thorough forensic analysis.
Boutros is scheduled to appear in court on February 28, 2022.
