Meth, Fentanyl seized from north Edmonton

Edmonton… Two suspected drug dealers were arrested after ALERT seized more than $300,000 worth of methamphetamine and fentanyl in a north Edmonton bust.

ALERT Edmonton’s organized crime and gang team made the arrests on May 11, 2021 with the help of the Edmonton Police Service. A north Edmonton home in the Lake District area was searched.

ALERT seized:

  • Loaded handgun with its serial number defaced;
  • Rifle;
  • 4,600 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 521 grams of fentanyl; and
  • $13,000 cash.

“This is another gun off the street and out of the hands of a suspected drug dealer. The drug trade is inherently violent and ALERT’s investigations are focused on suppressing violence through drug enforcement,” said Staff Sergeant Blayne Eliuk, ALERT Edmonton.

Two suspects were arrested. Jesse Thomson, 29, was a federal parolee at the time and ALERT began its investigation after suspecting he had resumed his involvement in the drug trade. Thomson is also currently bound by four separate court-ordered firearms prohibitions.

Thomson has been charged with 17 offences including: possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and 14 firearms-related offences.

Destiny Poitras, 23, faces 13 offences including: possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, seven firearms offences, and multiple breach charges.

Correctional Services of Canada provided assistance with the investigation.
