Fort McMurray drug investigation sees cocaine, cash seized

Fort McMurray… One man is facing drug related charges following an ALERT investigation in Fort McMurray.

On October 4, 2023, ALERT Fort McMurray’s organized crime team executed a search warrant at an apartment in the Timberlea area, with the help of Wood Buffalo RCMP. ALERT seized 112 grams of cocaine and $11,235 cash.

“The street value of this seizure is approximately $22,435. We see the impacts drugs and drug trafficking have on our community every day and its effects will not be tolerated. Our team continues to pursue these street-level dealers because it means keeping drugs out of our neighbourhoods,” said Staff Sgt. Mark Wait, ALERT Fort McMurray.

Justin Claeys, 27-years old of Fort McMurray faces trafficking charges. He has been released as he awaits his next court date scheduled for November 28, 2023.

ALERT began its investigation earlier this summer after becoming aware of a drug trafficking activity in the community.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime.
