Firearms and cocaine seized in rural Alberta drug bust

Lloydminster… Fifteen firearms were seized from a pair of suspected cocaine dealers operating in rural central Alberta. The suspects were allegedly based in Dewberry, Alta. and selling drugs in the Lloydminster area.

On February 7, 2024 ALERT Lloydminster’s organized crime team searched one home in Edmonton, one home in Dewberry, Alta., and four vehicles. ALERT received assistance from Lloydminster RCMP, Kitscoty RCMP, and the Edmonton Police Service.

Dewberry is located approximately 60 kilometers northwest of Lloydminster.

As result of the search warrant executions, ALERT seized 15 firearms, roughly $40,000 worth of cocaine, and $2,285 cash. Of the firearms seized, three were handguns and one was a prohibited rifle.

Further firearms ballistics testing and analysis is being completed by the Provincial Firearms Solutions Lab.

“Regardless of where criminals set up operations, whether it be the big cities or smallest towns, our ALERT teams have remained diligent in disrupting their criminal networks and keeping drugs and guns off the street,” said Sgt. Bruce MacLean, ALERT Lloydminster.

Jason Brennan, 38, has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. He was released from custody to await his scheduled court appearance on April 4, 2024.

Wayne Wong, 39, has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and several firearms offences. He was released from custody to await his scheduled court appearance on April 4, 2024.

The investigation began in November 2023 after ALERT received information about suspected drug trafficking activity taking place.
