Ghassan Alnaami was arrested on August 11, 2019, with the assistance of Leduc RCMP and the Edmonton International Airport RCMP. The 47-year-old Edmonton man is charged with possession and transmission of child pornography.

Alnaami is a pediatrician in Edmonton, but currently ICE has no information to suggest any offences were committed against children under his care. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta has been advised.

The allegations against Alnaami stem from an incident in April 2019 when child pornography was allegedly uploaded to the internet. RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre notified ICE of the offence in July 2019 and a complete investigation was launched.

ICE will continue its forensic analysis of computers and electronic devices seized from Alnaami. ICE is encouraging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact police or cybertip.ca.

Alnaami was released from custody on a number of court-imposed released conditions, notably: not to have any contact with anyone under the age of 16; and not to continue employment that involves being in a position of trust or authority towards persons under the age of 16 years.
