Edmonton Man Attempted to Arrange for Sex with 11-year-old

Edmonton… An Edmonton man was arrested by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit after he allegedly tried to arrange for sex with an 11-year-old girl.

Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) investigators arrested the 43-year-old man on January 25, 2017 with the assistance of Edmonton Police Service West Division. The suspect thought he was meeting a woman and her 11-year-old daughter for sex, but he was really talking online with an ICE investigator.

ICE investigators had been engaged in online conversations with the suspect since December 2016. During the course of the investigation the suspect was allegedly engaged in sexually explicit conversations and attempted to arrange for sex with the investigator’s spurious daughter.

Wesley Darrell Vander Leeuw is charged with making arrangements or agreement to commit sexual offences against a child and making child pornography. He remains in custody and is expected to make a bail application on January 27.

Vander Leeuw is involved in coaching youth soccer in Edmonton. Currently ICE has no information to suggest he offended on any children but are encouraging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact police.

Anyone with information about this investigation, or any child exploitation offence is encouraged to contact local police or cybertip.ca.
