Edmonton Babysitter Charged with Child Sexual Exploitation offences

Edmonton… ALERT is notifying the public after an Edmonton babysitter was recently charged with child sexual exploitation offences.

ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation team arrested Jason Michael Campbell, 36, at his west Edmonton home on November 23 on charges of possessing, accessing, and distributing child pornography.

Campbell has been providing babysitting or child minding services in Edmonton for the past 16 years, and has routinely posted advertisements with the online classifieds website Kijiji.

Campbell’s charges stem from a referral from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre that an Edmonton man was suspected of uploading child exploitation images to a website. ALERT received the referral on November 18 and fast-tracked the investigation after learning that the suspect was a baby-sitter.

At this point in the investigation ALERT does not have any evidence to suggest children in his care were sexually exploited, however there is evidence to suggest Campbell was uploading child pornography while children were in his care.

Campbell was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on November 26.

Anyone with information about this investigation, or any child exploitation offence is encouraged to contact police or cybertip.ca.

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime.
