Drugs, firearm seized from suspected Whitecourt drug dealer

Whitecourt… A joint forces investigation between Whitecourt RCMP and ALERT has led to the arrest of a suspected Whitecourt drug dealer. Methamphetamine, cocaine, cash and a firearm were seized.

On January 21, 2021 a Whitecourt home was searched to conclude a short-term drug trafficking investigation between Whitecourt RCMP and ALERT Grande Prairie’s organized crime and gang team.

Inside the residence, police located approximately $28,000 worth of drugs and cash, including:

  • A shotgun;
  • 179 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 43 grams of cocaine;
  • $13,610 cash.

Daniel Lee Scherer, 27-year-old man from Whitecourt, has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Methamphetamine);
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Cocaine);
  • Possession of a firearm without authorization;
  • Unsafe storage of firearm;
  • Fail to comply with undertaking conditions (x2); and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime.

Following a judicial hearing, Scherer was released on a number of conditions to appear in Whitecourt Provincial Court on February 23, 2021.

ALERT and RCMP began investigating Scherer’s suspected drug trafficking in November 2020.
