Calgary man charged with luring, child pornography offences

March 28, 2013

Calgary…A Calgary man was arrested and charged yesterday with six child pornography offences. The charges are a result of an investigation by ALERT’s southern Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit and United States Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Cincinnati, Ohio.

ALERT’s ICE unit is an integrated team made up of members from Calgary Police Service, Medicine Hat Police Service, Lethbridge Regional Police Service, and the RCMP.

The ICE unit was following up on tips received in Canada about inappropriate online conduct by an individual with the username “sirphaeton” when it learned of an investigation into the same suspect in the United States. Together, ICE and HSI tracked the suspect to a Calgary residence.

Sean Ian Rose, age 32, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of luring, and one count each of extortion, making, possessing, and accessing child pornography. Rose was arrested at his residence in southeast Calgary on March 28 without incident.

The alleged victim is a 14-year-old girl from Ontario.

Investigators are encouraging anyone with information pertaining to this investigation to contact Detective Dean Jacobs of the southern Alberta ICE unit at 403-428-4905.

Suspected child sexual exploitation or suspicious online activity may be reported to Canada’s national tipline at www.cybertip.ca.

ICE is an ALERT team established and funded by the Government of Alberta to bring together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to tackle serious and organized crime. Over 400 municipal police, RCMP and sheriffs work for ALERT.
