Edmonton… In February 2019, ALERT reported the arrest of Eric Manysiak, a 25-year-old man from Brooks, Alta., who was charged with several child pornography and sexual assault offences after ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit executed a search warrant at a residence. Manysiak was believed to be involved with multiple youth organizations over the years and, as such, ALERT made a request to the public for anyone with information surrounding the investigation into Manysiak, or any other child exploitation offence, to contact their local police or cybertip.ca. As a result of his arrest, Manysiak was convicted of multiple offences, which resulted in a recent 9.75-year jail sentence.
Due to ALERT’s plea to the public, information was provided that has assisted ICE to continue their investigation surrounding Manysiak. Investigators have identified an additional offender in relation to Manysiak and the file is ongoing.
“Oftentimes these investigations lead to other offenders. There are suspects out there complicit in these offences and it’s only a matter of time before they get a knock on the door,” said Sgt. Kirt Murray, ALERT ICE Unit.
ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime.
