High Level…Fourteen people from the High Level area face 36 charges related to trafficking cocaine and marihuana following an investigation by ALERT’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Units (CFSEU) from Grande Prairie and Edmonton, working alongside the newly-formed High Level RCMP Crime Reduction Unit.
The two-week investigation concluded on November 23 with the execution of five search warrants. As a result, police seized over 100 grams of cocaine, approximately 460 grams of marihuana, five grams of psilocybin (magic mushrooms), and one new model Dodge Charger. Over $12,000 in cash was also seized as suspected proceeds of crime.
High Level RCMP executed another search warrant in relation to this investigation on November 25.
“Drug trafficking can be found in any corner of this province, the far north included,” said CFSEU-Grande Prairie’s Cpl. Dean Riou. “This operation will have an immediate, positive impact on the area, which just goes to show the value of police agencies working together to tackle this sort of crime.”
Due to the scope of this investigation, several northern Alberta RCMP detachments provided assistance, including High Level, Assumption, Fort Vermillion, Manning, and Peace River General Investigations Section. RCMP Police Dog Services also assisted.
“This two-week investigation will have a long term impact on organized crime and drug trafficking in the Mackenzie Region,” commented Staff Sergeant Shane Ramteemal of the High Level RCMP.
In total, 14 people face 25 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges and 11 Criminal Code charges.
