ALERT charges two men with unlawful confinement, firearms offences in Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie…ALERT’s Grande Prairie Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) has charged two men following a report of a man being held at gunpoint in a Grande Prairie residence.

It is alleged that, on May 9, the two accused attended a downtown apartment complex, threatened the resident at gunpoint and held him there for several hours. The victim and accused were known to each other.

On May 10, CFSEU-Grande Prairie executed a search warrant on a vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident. A .38 caliber snub-nosed revolver with ammunition was seized from the trunk. The Grande Prairie RCMP provided assistance.

Twenty-year-old Khalid AHMED and 32-year-old Ibrahim Abdulkarim HASSAN are jointly charged with unlawful confinement and a number of firearms offences including use of a firearm in an offence, robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm. AHMED was also charged with knowingly possessing a prohibited firearm and six counts of breach of recognizance.

AHMED was arrested and charged on May 10. He is remanded in custody until his next court appearance in Grande Prairie on May 22.

Police have not yet located HASSAN. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
