ALERT charges four people after seizing over $60,000 in drugs in Red Deer

May 22, 2013

Red Deer…Red Deer’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) wrapped up a month-long drug trafficking investigation with charges against four people and the seizure of over $60,000 in illegal drugs.

With help from the Red Deer RCMP, CFSEU-Red Deer executed search warrants at an apartment in downtown Red Deer and a business in northeast Red Deer on May 16. The team seized 6,300 grams of marihuana, with an estimated street value of $63,000. The search also led to 28 grams of cocaine, a small amount of cash, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

“Like all Alberta communities, Red Deer is not immune to drug trafficking,” explained CFSEU-Red Deer’s Sgt. Gerald Ouellet. “While these are positive results, we know there is always more work to be done and will continue working with our partners to target those who engage in this kind of activity.”

As a result of this investigation, four people are charged:

  • Red Deer residents Ronald Allan RUE, age 43, and 49-year-old Christina CHARCHUK are each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and one count each of trafficking marihuana and possession of property obtained by crime.
  • Delburne residents Jerod FEDORAK, age 29, and 26-year-old Christina GRAHAM are each charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

All four accused were released and will make their next court appearances in Red Deer on July 25.

This was the first investigation led by ALERT’s newest team in Red Deer and comes less than a week after the team was introduced.

Residents who have information related to organized and serious crime are encouraged to contact the local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

CFSEU-Red Deer is an ALERT team jointly funded by the province and municipality to bring together Alberta’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to tackle serious and organized crime. Over 400 municipal police, RCMP and sheriffs work for ALERT.
