UPDATE: Alberta Dad Charged with Incest

Edmonton… An Alberta father has been arrested by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation team for incest and sexual exploitation offences allegedly committed against his own child. The offences allegedly took place in a small town outside of Edmonton.

The Alberta Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) team discovered the alleged sexual abuse during the examination of a seized cell phone. The suspect was arrested on August 17 and the child is receiving help from a variety of support services.

The investigation dates back to December 2015, and at the time focused on instances of child pornography being uploaded to the internet. RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre made the referral to ICE.

ICE identified the suspect and executed a search warrant at his residence in May 2016. The suspect was charged with multiple child pornography-related offences. Seven computers and electronic devices were seized, and found to contain approximately 4,000 photos and 900 videos of child sexual exploitation.

During the forensic analysis of the seized devices, investigators identified a video in which they thought involved the accused committing sexual abuse against a child. Further investigation led ICE to believe the accused was committing sexual offences against his child.

ICE arrested the suspect for a second time on August 17 with assistance from RCMP members. The suspect has been charged with incest, sexual exploitation, sexual assault, and more charges are being contemplated. He was released on bail with several conditions, including not to contact the victim and not to return to the residence.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on September 15.

ICE is not identifying the suspect, or the location of the offences in order to help protect the identity of the victim.
