Stun Guns Headed for Edmonton Seized

Edmonton… Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) in partnership with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have conducted an investigation that has led to the seizure of 24 stun guns.

This case began when CBSA officers at the International Mail Centre in Vancouver intercepted four packages of stun guns.  The package originated in Singapore and were destined for an address in Alberta.  The CBSA referred the file to ALERT who conducted a follow up investigation.

Jason Kruse, 31, was arrested with the assistance of the Edmonton Police Service at his southwest Edmonton home on December 2. A small marihuana grow-op was located inside the residence and dismantled. Kruse is facing 74 charges, including:

  • Importing a prohibited device (x 24);
  • Possession of an offensive weapon (x 25);
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon (x 25).

The stun guns were designed to look like flashlights but with a flick of the switch were capable of delivering a high-voltage electrical shock.

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime. Nearly 400 municipal police, RCMP, and sheriffs work in ALERT.

Ghost Guns are illegal, privately manufactured firearms or lower receivers. These weapons are often made with 3D-printers, and undermine public safety due to their lack of licensing requirements, serialization and safety controls.
