Regina Police: One Charged in Human Trafficking Investigation

Regina Police: One Charged in Human Trafficking Investigation

A 28 year-old male from Calgary, AB is facing human trafficking charges following an investigation led by the Regina Police Service. The charge, and several others, were laid as part of a complex, multi-agency investigation called ‘Project Anchor’.

The investigation began in December of 2025 when Regina Police Service investigators received information about a female victim being trafficked in the sex trade. An investigation showed the victim had been trafficked throughout western Canada, including in Regina. These offences are believed to have occurred between December 2023, and November 2025.

Investigators from the Regina Police Service Vice Unit worked with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) Human Trafficking Enforcement Unit to investigate, locate and arrest the suspect. On May 20, 2026, Abdoulaye GADJIKO, a resident of Calgary, AB, was arrested and charged in relation to this case. Over 30 officers with the two Alberta agencies were involved in the arrest and subsequent search of four residences, one business and a vehicle. All were located in Calgary, AB. The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) also assisted in the investigation.

In addition to the assistance from partner agencies, multiple Regina Police Service investigative units and civilian professionals contributed to the six-month project.

As a result, 28 year-old Abdoulaye GADJIKO is charged with:

  • Human Trafficking [CC 279.01(1)(a)];
  • Material Benefit Resulting from Trafficking [CC 279.02];
  • Procuring [CC 286.3(1)];
  • Material Benefit from Sexual Services (Living off the Avails) [CC 286.2(1)];
  • Advertising Sexual Services [CC 286.4(a)];
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000 [CC 355]
  • Money Laundering [CC 462.31];and
  • Failure to Comply [CC 145(5)]

“Human Trafficking investigations are extremely complex. most often cross borders and require extensive collaboration between agencies ” explains Deputy Chief of Police Laurel Marshall. “First and foremost, it’s about ensuring victims are safe and helping them break free from their traffickers. I am proud of the work being done by everyone involved in ‘Project Anchor’.”

Anyone with any information that may be related to this investigation is encouraged to contact their local police service.

GADJIKO will make his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 9:30 a.m.

Since 2022, CISA has been guided by four pillars that focus the effort to promote an integrated, intelligence-led approach to combating organized crime; these are:

  • Building Relationships with Stakeholders;
  • Promote Intel Sharing Across the Province;
  • Being Proactive and Identify Emerging Trends; and
  • Investing in Our People Through Training and Development

Criminal Intelligence Service Alberta (CISA) has recently developed an Alberta Firearms Intelligence Centre (AFIC) to equitably expand access to firearms intelligence for all law enforcement agencies within Alberta. AFIC will provide timely, accurate, and actionable intelligence to law enforcement agencies and policy-makers to achieve the shared and collaborative goals of increasing public safety concerning firearm-related crimes.

Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) involves images and/or videos that depict the sexual abuse of minors – the majority of which involve prepubescent children. Often, CSAM involves explicit and/or extreme sexual assaults against the child victim (Cybertip.ca).

Ghost Guns are illegal, privately manufactured firearms or lower receivers. These weapons are often made with 3D-printers, and undermine public safety due to their lack of licensing requirements, serialization and safety controls.
