Edmonton… ALERT has intercepted a shipment of 20 kilograms of methamphetamine that was stashed inside a vehicle’s hidden compartment. Two Edmonton homes were also searched.
ALERT Edmonton’s organized crime team made the seizure on April 9, 2025 after a traffic stop was initiated near Wainwright, Alta., approximately 200 kilometres southeast of Edmonton. ALERT had information that the vehicle and its lone occupant had picked up a shipment of drugs in Winnipeg that they were attempting to transport back to Edmonton.
The meth seized has an approximate street value of $800,000.
“Organized crime doesn’t operate within the confines of borders. It is a sophisticated enterprise that spans provinces and jurisdictions. We are grateful for the help from our policing partners in Saskatchewan and Manitoba to keep this large quantity of drugs from being circulated in Edmonton,” said Insp. Angela Kemp, ALERT.
Winnipeg Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and the Edmonton Police Service all provided assistance with the investigation.
Following the vehicle stop and meth seizure, two Edmonton homes were then searched. ALERT seized additional quantities of drugs, along with two firearms:
The firearms have been submitted to the province’s Firearms Solutions Lab to complete analysis and ballistics testing. The cash and vehicle will be considered for civil forfeiture.
Two suspects were arrested but no charges have been laid. The investigation remains ongoing as investigators prepare reports and disclosure for Crown Counsel. Charges are expected at a later date.
