Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) is a non-profit corporation that brings together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to investigate serious and organized crime. ALERT is comprised of personnel from municipal police agencies, RCMP, and civilian staff that work together on elite teams throughout Alberta focusing on organized crime, human trafficking, auto crimes and child exploitation.

Under the direction of ALERT’s Staff Sergeant in charge of the Human Trafficking Counter Exploitation Unit, the Safety Network Coordinator works closely with the police team with the main goal of providing a variety of supports to victims of human trafficking.

ALERT is looking to hire one (1) full-time, permanent Safety Network Coordinator located in Edmonton.

The salary range for this position is $71,968 to 82,784 per annum.

The work arrangement for this position is in-person, on-site (not hybrid or remote).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

The duties and responsibilities of the Safety Network Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide immediate support and safety planning when a victim of Human Trafficking is identified through ALERT Human Trafficking Detectives and partners.
  • Liaise with the Safety Network of shelters, hotels and other safe facilities to secure placements as needed by victims.
  • Work collaboratively with partners to create and implement strategies for education and proactively addressing demand for human trafficking.
  • Provide short- and long-term support to human trafficking victims leading up to, during, and after the court process.
  • Coordinate specialized safety outreach initiatives with law enforcement and community partners.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to engage persons with lived experience to provide input and peer support.
  • Administration and Reporting as required.
  • This is a front-line response position. There will be some expectations to be able to respond to situations (police referrals, client support) outside of regular business hours (evenings and weekends).
  • This position requires some inter-provincial travel and may require overnight stays.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary education or related training and experience in the Social Work/Support Work field with transferable knowledge and skills is preferred.
  • Formal knowledge regarding the dynamics of sex trafficking, especially trauma-bonding relationships is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting persons affected by sexual violence, sexual exploitation and sex trafficking is essential.
  • Experience working with the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Victims Services.
  • Experience working with police and community-based Advocate teams is valued.
  • Experience working with government offered support services.
  • Experience working as part of a team or network, including law enforcement partners is valued.

 

DESIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of the criminal justice system processes is valued.
  • Ability to integrate trauma-informed promising practices; awareness of key frameworks such as: “Stages of Change”, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and models of response to gender-based violence is essential.
  • As this role requires some travel, the successful candidate must have a valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • The successful candidate is required to pass an RCMP enhanced security clearance.

Flexible Work Schedule
