Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) is a non-profit corporation that brings together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to investigate serious and organized crime. ALERT is comprised of personnel from municipal police agencies, RCMP, and civilian staff that work together on elite teams throughout Alberta focusing on organized crime, human trafficking, auto crimes and child exploitation.
ALERT is looking to hire one (1) full-time, permanent, Junior Accountant to join the Finance Team in our Edmonton office.
This position reports directly to the Financial Controller and is responsible for providing clerical, analysis and administrative support to ALERT’s finance area.
The salary range for this position is $59,987.20 to $67,537.60 per annum.
The work arrangement for this position is in-person, on-site (not hybrid or remote).
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following:
• Perform full cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
• Process journal vouchers, month-end and year-end accounting transactions
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliation
• Process bi-weekly timesheets and payroll for Corporate employees, prepare T4 statements, process records of employment and hire/termination paperwork
• Process depreciation entries
• Maintain and reconcile petty cash, expense claims, and procurement cards
• Prepare bank reconciliations
• Maintain accurate records within accounting, timekeeping, payroll and human resources software
• Prepare regulatory filings, including GST returns
• Generate various reports (e.g. variance analysis), identify and correct issues and errors, and resolve financial inquiries
• Document processes within standard operating procedures
• Prepare audit working papers and address audit requests
• Maintain filing and record systems and perform other general office duties
DESIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:
The following qualifications have been identified for this position:
• Certificate or Diploma in Bookkeeping, or Accounting
• Minimum 2 years of relevant full-cycle bookkeeping/accounting experience
• Thorough understanding of accounting and business processes
• Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite); Experience with Sage 50 or Sage Intacct, Ceridian (asset)
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills with ability to handle multiple competing requests
• Strong interpersonal and communication (written, verbal) skills
