The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) is a non-profit corporation that brings together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to investigate serious and organized crime. ALERT is comprised of personnel from municipal police agencies, RCMP, and civilian staff that work together on elite teams throughout Alberta focusing on organized crime, human trafficking, auto crimes and child exploitation.


ALERT is looking for a Director of Technology and Investigative Support to fill a full-time permanent position based in Edmonton.


Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the senior management team, the ALERT Director of Technology and Investigative Support is responsible and accountable for the strategic oversight and daily leadership of an extensive portfolio comprised of Information Technology, Application Development, Disclosure Services, Civil Forfeiture Liaison, Provincial Firearms Laboratory Liaison, and Technical Investigation Unit. The Director is required to develop and drive forward appropriate strategies and policies, and is accountable to drive reporting teams’ performance measures to facilitate the achievement of corporate objectives in a fast-paced environment.


The salary range for this position is $149,240 – $165,880.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Technology and lnvestigative Support include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for the formulation, implementation and monitoring of corporate strategy, policy and performance matters within the purview of the portfolio;
  • Work closely with unit managers to develop and monitor goals and initiatives for their respective teams;
  • Facilitate effective delivery and ongoing evaluation of processes ensuring best practices and fiscal responsibility;
  • Contribute as a member of the ALERT Management Team by participating in the generation and implementation of new ideas and strategies for conducting business;
  • Liaise and collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders including the RCMP, municipal and Indigenous police services and the Government of Alberta;
  • Liaise with staff and support the development of a high-performance team through supervision, training and mentoring;
  • Coordinate and liaise with ALERT Training to maintain information delivery to all ALERT teams;
  • Manage the team’s human, physical and financial resources to ensure maximum utilization, efficiency, effectiveness and quality of service;
  • Ensuring that risks related to the team are mitigated and managed in a reasonable and effective manner;
  • Fostering the delivery of a “service model” for the team to support the entire organization;
  • Act as an ALERT ambassador / liaison with the Crown Prosecutors’ Office.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Post-secondary degree in Administration, Human Resources, Computer Science or Engineering, or other related discipline; or minimum fifteen (15) years of leadership / managerial experience in a law enforcement environment.
  • Experience in Major Case Management is considered an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of change management principles and processes.
  • Extensive experience in successfully managing human, financial and material resources.
  • Ability to develop and positively influence both internal and external stakeholders through partnerships.
